Get certified to use MPL's longarm quilter!
Join us in the Makerspace to learn the basics about our longarm quilter. In order to use the machine for your personal projects, you must first take this course!
Materials You Need to Bring with You:
Pair of small sewing scissors
Ironed Practice backing fabric -- 36 x 36 inches: Your backing must be AT LEAST 6 inches wider (3 inches on each side and top/bottom) thank quilt top. Use the same quality, 100% cotton fabric for your backing as you use for your quilt top. Do NOT use a sheet or denim or upholstery fabric! Remove the selvages in the center of the backing (if joined) but leave the selvages on the outer edges of the backing.
Ironed Practice top fabric -- 30 x 30 inches
Practice batting -- 36 x 36 inches. (This is roughly half of a twin-size batting or a crib size, cut to size.) This must be AT LEAST 6 inces wider (3 inches each side) than quilt top. Your batting can be cotton or cotton/polyester around 1/4 inch thick. Do NOT bring 2 inch thick fluffy polyester!
Pin cushion -- A wrist pin cusion is VERY handy.
Your own pantograph, if desired. (MPL does have a few you can use.)
Important:
Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes as you will be standing during the class.
You will be scheduled to train with one other person. If you need to cancel, please let MPL know right away so someone can take your place.
After you are certified by one of our trainers, we will soon have times available for you to come and work on your project with supervision from a trainer. We will have quilting supplies for sale in the Makerspace but if you choose to bring your own supplies, they must be approved before you will be allowed to use them on the machine.
